CANINEUS IN CELLOPHANE

installation, car seat from Chrysler Voyager, LED clock on USB, Saint Christopher from the devotional online store

In this work, I refer directly to the publication of PhD Piotr Karocki „Martian liturgical calendar”, which outlined the problems of spiritual life on Mars. Numerous practical references to the liturgical year in the life of a Catholic on the Red Giant opened me up to finding solutions, i.e. the fusion of its satellites – Phobos and Deimos, an attempt to regulate the architectural idea for sacred buildings („See you on Mars, the planet of the first neo-Catholics”). I also took up the subject of evolution of faith in a gravity lower than Earth’s. And that’s what the work you see in front of you becomes. The last Catholic, far from the unleashed earthly norms of faith, those who returned to the roots of the Slavic culture. In the company of St. Christopher protected with cellophane from strong wind and dust. Christopher himself, the object of ridicule and jokes because of his canine beauty, for which he reportedly asked God himself. Cananeus, on the other hand, comes from Latin and means Canaean (by origin), and his dog-head is translated from the word cynocephalus, meaning the legendary people of Anatolia, whose heads were supposed to resemble dog faces. In the current nomenclature, he is known primarily for carrying baby Jesus across Jordan – that is, the activity he was doing about every day. He took the job because of his previous service to the devil, but it may be a metaphor for the Emperor Trajan, who was responsible for his Christian martyrdom. He, himself was trying to boil him alive, but it is said that it was not only his face that marked his doginess. Only the beheading killed the giant.
