On paper, you need to be equal to your opponent in order to fight. You also need to consider weight and experience if you really want to be fair. However, you can lose weight just before the fight (AWL, acute weight loss). Some fighters lose more than 10 kilograms in one week. To achieve this, you can sweat out most of the water in your body. After the official weigh-in, however, you can eat and drink as much as you want (AWG, acute weight gain). During the fight, some fighters weigh 10–12% more than they did the day before.
